It seems unlikely that such a seemingly mundane item as a guitarist's pedalboard could stand to have radical improvement. After all, it's just a piece of plywood with a Velro or black formica top, right? While that is often the case, John Chandler, the founder of Pedaltrain pedalboards, saw an opportunity to improve on a seemingly stolid design.
Traditionally, a guitar pedalboard is simply a flat board with the pedals, cables, and power supply laying on top of the board. While it can be convenient to have all the materials laid out in such a way, more often than not the "traditional" pedalboard layout results in a mess of power cords and patch cables, hardly a pleasure to work with. Enter the Pedaltrain.
Rather than a flat slab of wood, the Pedaltrain is an all-metal construction consisting of elevated rails with small gaps between the rails. This construction makes it easy to route cables underneath the pedalboard as well as stow unsightly cable mess. Such a radically new design makes rearranging pedals and cables much more convenient. Due to its design, even the largest Pedaltrain model is incredibly lightweight, especially compared to hardwood pedalboards.
New revisions of the Pedaltrain series also include space underneath for storing and mounting a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 power supply, saving valuable pedalboard space (the largest Pedaltrain model, the Pro, will actually accommodate two Pedal Power 2 power supplies). By design, the Pedaltrain ships without a power supply to afford the consumer ultimate flexibility.
Pedaltrain pedalboards come in a variety of sizes with a number of options regarding hard or soft cases. Currently, the three Pedaltrain models are as follows:
o Pedaltrain Jr (17" x 12.5" x 2")
o Pedaltrain "Standard" (24" x 12.5" x 2)
o Pedaltrain Pro (32" x 16" x 3)
In addition, all Pedaltrain models come with a lifetime manufacturer's warranty against defects.
