For the first time in decades a new British designed range of value guitar amps has "rocked" the market place. Blackstar is still a very new company but within a short time has convinced and converted many die hard valve amp users (watch out Marshall, Fender, Hiwatt, Orange etc!!!)
In recent years more and more guitar players have coveted boutique amplifiers (Matchless, Cornford, Trainwreck etc) but as someone once said - any amp you can't afford is a boutique one! High grade, hand wired amps with great build quality are usually expensive.
The background of Blackstar is an interesting one both of their chief designers, Bruce Keir and Ian Robinson, were pivotal figures in Marshall's R+D departments for many years. Bruce and Ian took their vast experience and innovation talents to produce a range of amps not bounded by brand expectation, an amp with high build qualities associated with top end U.S.A manufacture.
The ultimate proof of acceptance is when rocks prime guitar players sit up and take notice when an important new brand appears. After all, iconic brands are relatively few and a potential future classic is rare! Blackstar have swiftly converted many great guitarists moving from the majors including Marshall!
Blackstars range of amps and pedals may not suit everyone but have convinced a number of major players so far including Gaz Coombes (Supergrass/Hotrats), Björn Ägren (Razorlight), James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers), Steve Craddock (Ocean Colour Scene, Paul Weller), Boz Boorer (Morrissey) and Jay Mehler (Kasabian).
The full Blackstar range are designed in Northampton and manufactured to the highest standard of craftsmanship in the Far East. The vintage/ boutique sound is not for everybody. But for many "amp-heads" they are a revelation.

Dave Robinson is a musician who lives in Aboyne, North East Scotland. He's played in bands since he was 14 and first sat behind a kit of drums at the age of 8! The Blackstar range of amplifiers are available at the North East's premier music suppliers Bruce Millers including the stunning Blackstar Artisan 100.
