The HDTV tuner is the gadget that helps display the HD content on your television. Yes, you must have a HDTV, but you also must have a source for getting the HD content. This is the tuner. The HD tuner receivers the HD signal from sources that offer HD programming such as satellite TV services, cable services, Blu-Ray players, and even HDTV capable video game consoles. Without the tuner, the television will only be displaying regular TV signals, which does not allow you to experience HD at all.

If your cable or satellite company does not have the tuner installed in their equipment, you may need to purchase the tuner.
