Before you start learning the guitar, make sure that it is properly adjusted so that it plays harmoniously. To achieve this it is important that you should learn how to adjust action on a guitar. There are a few things to keep in mind in order to play the guitar. When the action on the instrument is adjusted, it improves the overall sound quality it produces and thus minimizing the chances of it producing a droning sound.
There are some basic adjustments that help in improving the performance of the guitar. The first one is the accurate action at the nut. The nut space requires accurate spacing in order to avoid the other outer strings from wheeling off the fingerboard edges. There has to be proper spacing between the strings to have a good and clear sound from the instrument. Apart from the proper spacing, the other adjustments that are equally important are proper angle at the lower end of the slot, proper width to keep the strings from adhering at the slots and proper depth of the slot thus giving correct space required between the frets and the strings.
Another structure important in knowing as to how to adjust action on guitar is the saddle. The main use of the saddle is to prevent any droning sound while playing the instrument thus preventing any damage to itself. The proper neck shape or the bow, as it is known, provides proper vibrations of the strings without coming in contact with the frets. The frets have to be properly leveled and you should take proper care in order to prevent any damage to it in form of cracks or scratches. And after all other adjustments are taken care of; the intonation is adjusted to keep the instrument in tune.
It is necessary to keep your instrument in tune. It is possible that these settings differ for different guitars or different guitarist playing the instrument in their own unique style. Some of the guitarists produce sharp and high pitched sound by proper adjustments of the strings and applying accurate finger pressure on the fret. Also you have to take proper care of the instrument so that its life is prolonged. You have to know the kind of environment best suited for the instrument since all damages to the instrument may not be covered in the manufacturing guarantee.
Taking measures to prevent damage to the instrument is equally important as playing the right tune. When the instrument is used it is bound to deteriorate with time, hence taking care of the instrument will help in making it sound in tune always.
