Designs that are based on the Art Deco aesthetic bring to mind images of a glorious and distant past that is represented by elegance and sophistication. The height of Art Deco could be easily placed right around the 1920s to 1930s, the era that gave birth to guitars that are now considered at this day and age to be bankable investments. While you could expect to pay the price of a house for a guitar built in the 1950s, the Luna Athena 12 string electric guitar brings in that Art Deco elegance in just a fraction of the cost.
The Athena 12, as the name implies, is a 12 string electric guitar. With the goal of attracting lovers of vintage guitars or vintage styling in general, the Athena 12 exhibits that Art Deco inspired design from headstock to tailpiece in a black gloss package. It has a semi-hollow body crafted from maple that is designed in a similar manner as a Gibson ES-175 but is shaped more elegantly to reflect Art Deco inspiration. It is also equipped with a set V neck gilded with a rosewood fretboard, and brushed satin hardware that includes a smart-looking matte nickel tailpiece and 12 Grover tuners fitted in two rows at the headstock. Guitarists looking for a stylish guitar that can hold its own in a fashion magazine spread need to look no further than the Luna Athena 12.
The Luna Athena 12 is more than just looks, however. Its sophisticated design makes it a very light and comfortable guitar to play with its weight clocking in at only 7.9 pounds. Sound-wise, it's equipped two mini-humbuckers that are routed to a simple electronics configuration of a three-way selector switch and single master volume and tone knobs. In this manner, the Luna Athena 12 offers simple control and a less noisy signal with its mini-humbuckers.
The Luna Athena 12 is one of the poor and hungry guitarist's alternative to the costlier Rickenbacker 360/12. Its competitive entry-level pricing almost feels like a guarantee of getting a reasonably good sounding instrument that is also bound to look fashionably good on stage as well.
