In this Starcraft 2 Zerg 1v1 guide, I will be covering all the basic strategies for dominating other players in online play. The best units change depending on what race your opponent is and what units your opponent is getting. Below, I will cover common enemy builds and the best units you can pick to counter these builds.
Zerg vs Zerg
In Zerg vs Zerg mirror matches, the best strategy will depend on what your enemy is doing. Be sure to scout early to prevent your enemy from pulling off a quick rush. Once you prepare for any imminent rush (or lack thereof), your next move depends on your opponent.
If your opponent is keeping 1 base and building a lot of Zerglings, you will want to build some Roaches. Roaches demolish Zerglings. If the enemy is not building a Lair, you do not have to worry about air units; mass Roaches and then go in. Likewise, if your enemy expands early, build some Zerglings and Roaches and make him pay for his early expansion.
Now, if your enemy is keeping a single base and opting for Roaches, one of the best strategies you can pull off is to rush for Mutalisks. Usually it takes Zerg players awhile to get a decent amount of Roaches; during this time you can grab a fast expansion and throw down some Spine Crawlers. A Queen and Spine Crawlers can defend against the Roach push and will also prevent your enemy from checking out your Spire. Oftentimes just 4 early Mutalisks can win a 1v1 Zerg match.
Zerg vs Protoss
When playing against Protoss players, the best build once again depends on what the enemy is building. If the enemy is building mostly an infantry army (Zealots, Stalkers, and Sentries), you can do quite well building Roaches, Hydralisks, and Infestors.
If the enemy brings out Immortals, stop building Roaches. If the enemy brings out Colossi, be sure to add in Corruptors into your Hydralisk/Infestor mix. Mutalisks and Brood Lords are also very effective versus Protoss players, but these units are very expensive. Be sure you have the resources before you construct any offensive air units.
Zerg vs Terran
Terran will be your hardest 1v1 match-up as Zerg. The Infestor is a key unit that you will want to make routine use of; Neural Parasite is very effective versus Thors and Fungal Growth is very effective versus Marines and Marauders.
If the enemy is building Infantry, all you will need are Hydralisks, Infestors, and Mutalisks. The problem is when the enemy builds mechanical units like Hellions, Siege Tanks, and Thors. At this point, you will want to use Infestors, Ultralisks, and air units. Ultralisks deal good damage versus Siege Tanks and Thors and are able to withstand some of their damage. Use your Ultralisks to bust through Tank lines and send your Mutalisks and Infestors in on a delayed start to pick off Siege Tanks and cast Neural Parasite on Thors, respectively.
While these are some strategies you can use to win more 1v1 games as Zerg, I recommend visiting this Starcraft 2 Zerg vs Zerg strategy page and this Starcraft 2 Zerg vs Protoss strategy guide for more effective strategies that you can use to win Starcraft 2 games.

DiMarzio Area Strat Pickup Set Aged White $169.99 The DiMarzio Area Strat Pickup set contains 3 well-designed pickups: the Area '58 (neck), the Area '67 (middle), and the Area '61 (bridge). Easy to install, they'll bring a collection of authentic tones to your Strat-style guitar while reducing noise. The Area '58 (neck) There are two major differences between a great vintage Strat pickup and an average one: treble response and dynamics. A great pickup is clear and bright, but not thin-sounding. A great one makes the sound jump out of the amp when you pick hard and drop way down when you play softly, and the tone varies when the string is picked at different spots. The best pickup DiMarzio ever heard like this was from 1958, and that's what inspired the Area 58, with two major differences. This pickup has way less magnet pull, and virtually no hum. The Area 58 has obvious similarities to the Virtual Vintage 2.1 it replaces, but there are several non-visible performance factors that have changed. Dynamic range and string definition are greatly increased, leading to improvements in both clean chord-playing and overdriven soloing. The Area 58 is very sensitive to small height adjustment differences: close to the strings produces a fatter, slightly compressed blues tone and further away yields crystal clean sounds. The final improvement is in noise reduction. All of the Virtual Vintage pickups have better hum cancellation than full-size humbuckers. Area 58 and Area 61 are even quieter. The Area '67 (middle) The Monterey Pop Festival of 1967 was a watershed event in American music. When it was over, the world had heard and felt the sound of a Strat in the hands of a master. Single-coils in 1967 were bright and very clean. And, of course, they hummed. DiMarzio has captured the classic bright and clean sound but totally eliminated the hum with their patented Area technology. They've also reduced magnet pull by 40% for improved sustain and clarity. The Area 67 has the chime of 60s pickups, and the 2 and 4 positions are light, bright and quack-happy. Strat pickups in the late 1960s used full-strength Alnico 5 magnets. The patented magnetic field of the Area models is more efficient and focused than it is on "true" single-coils, which allows us to use Alnico 2 instead. There's much less magnet pull, but no loss of output. This is a major advantage in the neck and middle positions, where sustain and intonation can both suffer if the strings are exposed to strong magnetic fields. In the bridge position, the patented technology of the Area 67 produces a sound that's very bright but not brittle. The Area '61 (bridge) DiMarzio has been working on serious vintage single-coil design with no hum for twelve years. Their goal has always been to capture the best qualities of pickups heard from the 1950s and early 60s. They played several pickups from the early 60s that had a unique ton |
