Finessing The Design Elements In Your Stickers
A great deal of finesse is needed when you design color stickers. Sticker printing is not your typical poster or banner print. Stickers, which are generally smaller in nature, need very precise design manipulation so that everything can fit perfectly within the small confines of a standard sticker layout. In this special guide, I am going to teach you how to finesse some of the design elements for most color stickers. Just try to learn and master some of these common design application features.
Auto-Scaling
One of the very first things that you should pay attention to when designing your stickers is the scaling of text and images. To maintain the perfect aspect ratio of your images and text, you must always scale them down or up with a fixed ratio. This means that the height and width parameters of the images and text must always be linked according to its original ratio.
Many applications for desktop publishing do allow this kind of auto-scaling and it is important to learn where this is so that you can design your color stickers in a precise manner with the best looking scaled down graphics. Just try to use the help feature on your software or just look for a tutorial online to see how to sale your images properly for your custom stickers.
Auto-Selection And Cropping
Another important key feature that you can use to handle your designs with finesse are the automatic selection features and cropping. Many design applications such as Adobe Photoshop can allow you to select certain areas of an image and then remove or crop it down to make space or lift some elements for a better design.
Selection tools such as the "Magic Wand" tool or the ""Magnetic Lasso" tool are your best bets in removing the background of some images or selecting certain shapes within a larger image. With these selection tools and cropping, you should be able to create great stickers with integrated graphics easily and accurately.
Precise Font Property Controls
Now, in sticker printing, the precise formatting of the font properties of your text is crucial of course. Sometimes, it is just not enough to use a certain font size and font style. You will also want to adjust the actual character spacing of each letter in your text, as well as things like font kerning. Almost all desktop publishing applications should be able to edit these precise font property controls.
By playing around with these settings, text that you probably thought hard to fit in your layout can them magically fit with a few easy tweaks. So remember to try to tweak these settings to finesse your designs and content even further for sticker printing.
Precise Paragraph Spacing Controls
Beyond the font controls, you should also be aware that you also have paragraph spacing controls. The line spacing of each text content can be a crucial element that will fit all the needed elements together in your color stickers. Besides the usual single or double spaced line spacing values, some applications can actually let you enter a "point" or "pt" value, mimicking the precise line spacing distance for a certain font size. This should let you have some precise control on how far each line space can be. You can even put in a low value so that the lines of text touch each other in the process.
Image Blending
Finally, finessing your sticker designs means blending your images well so that they look integrated into the layout itself. The typical blending effects that you should use include adding shadow effects, glow effects and border effects on images so that you can emphasize them as some sort of frame or picture.
You can also add textures and other types of artistic filters into your images (if your software allows it) to add that integrated and artistic feel in those pictures. By blending images well like this, it should be easy to have a fully coherent and integrated sticker design.
