Seven Reasons Why Second & Third String Players are Necessary in the NFL
If you watch the National Football League then you know, it’s a pretty dangerous, high contact sport that is likely to cause dozens of injuries per year. That’s probably the number one reason why having both second and third string players at each and every game is a huge necessity. But what other reasons are there for professional football teams to seek out good second stringers? Check out the score board and the NFL display easels of players and you’ll find out.
Seven good reasons why 2nd and 3rd stringers are vital to the NFL.
1. As previously mentioned, injured starters is the main reason for second and third stringers.
2. If a player is doing badly during consecutive plays or consecutive games, coaches have the option to sit them out for a while until they regain their confidence.
3. If a player has done poorly all year they will most likely get canned and get replaced by a second-stringer. It happens more than they’d like.
4. Needless to say, third stringers are necessary when second stringers get injured. Hey, it happens.
5. If a player’s personal life gets in the way and they have to spend some time locked up, a second stringer can save the game. In Michael Vick’s case, his number two had to step it up for about two full seasons.
6. If a player has way too many personal fouls or simply cannot keep his head in the game, he’ll sit and his replacement will prosper.
7. And lastly, If your quarterback is too self absorbed or is simply way too old to do a team good, then the second stringer will definitely get their chance to shine. Aaron Rodgers over Brett Favre any day! Of course he learned from the best, but his record speaks for itself. In the words of Terry Bradshaw, this young quarterback is “poised beyond his years.”

A String of Pearls $20 "A String of Pearls, From Infamy to Victory, A WW II Series--Book One" is the first of a four-book series by historian Dr. Ben Baglio. These books are rich in history, and are truly character-driven. If you have ever read and appreciated a novel by W.E.B. Griffen, you'll love Baglio's books. USS Arizona, BB-39. The name stirs emotions. A vibrant leviathan that sailed the world's oceans in the name the United States, she was already twenty-seven years old on December 7, 1941. But she was still the pride of the Navy and a favorite of politicians, like President Franklin D. Roosevelt who witnessed the laying of her keel in the Brooklyn Navy Yard in 1914, and Hollywood stars who used her as a backdrop for patriotic films of the 1930's. Like an ageless siren, Arizona could still draw a smile, even from those newfangled aircraft carriers whose airplanes buzzed her like a swarm of angry bees during war games. Had the awful events of that fateful Sunday morning not occurred at Pearl Harbor, the Arizona probably would have passed through the rest of her life peacefully and been scrapped sooner than later. However, her fate would be to serve as a focal point of hate and vengeance when she and most of her crew were incinerated. But...was it a bomb that destroyed her, or was Arizona the first casualty of longstanding international gamesmanship that led to a war that had to be fought? A String of Pearls engages the reader in a series of "what-ifs." Get to know Arizona's men. Listen in on conversations between Roosevelt and Churchill. Fly in a Spitfire during the Battle of Britain. Visit with ordinary military men who would be asked to perform extraordinary feats by their rival governments and get to know the women who loved them. Witness the epic battle of the Bismarck and the Hood. Fly with the Japanese pilots who carried out the attack on Pearl Harbor, and the frustration and heroism of one who was forced to sit on the sidelines. Take a trip back in time and listen to Glenn Miller play A String of Pearls, and come to realize we struggle with the same issues today. |

Seven Secrets (Japan) (Mlps) $54.99 Seven Secrets is a pensive follow-up that shows the band stretching out into lengthy and varied suites like "Garden Lady." The album's dynamics can be a bit irritating at times -- the production too often toys with very soft passages that may cut it in the symphony hall, but get tiresome anywhere else. Still, "Elizabeth" is one of the band's best compositions, an ambitious fulfillment of their talents at both string arrangements and progressive rock instrumentation, and "Three Spires" is a fine showcase for Peter Farelly's wistful vocals. As on their debut, the title track is a rather fey little bit of filler, but it hardly detracts from the overall high level of the album. ~ Paul Collins |

Los Super Seven $6.99 A portion of the proceeds from sales of this album will go to the National Council of La Raza, a non-profit organization established to improve life opportunities for Hispanic Americans.Los Super Seven: David Hidalgo (vocals, guitar, drums, bass, percussion, requinto, hidalguera); Rick Trevino, Joe Ely (vocals, guitar); Flaco Jimenez (vocals, accordion); Cesar Rosas (vocals, six-string bass, guitar, guitarron, jarana); Freddy Fender (vocals, acoustic bass); Ruben Ramos (vocals).Additional personnel: Joel Guzman (vocals, percussion, accordion, piano, organ, background vocals); Doug Sahm (vocals); Campanas De America (violin, trumpet, jarana, guitarron, background vocals); Megan Levin (harp); Ricardo Ramirez (acoustic bass); Max Baca (four & six string basses, drums, background vocals); Gilbert Isais (electric bass); Sarah Fox (background vocals).Recorded at Cedar Creek Recording, Austin, Texas. Includes liner notes by John Sayles.LOS SUPER SEVEN won the 1999 Grammy for Best Mexican-American Music Performance and was nominated for Best Recording Package. While they have only the considerable talents of the Texas Tornadoes (with whom they share two members) for competition, Los Super Seven make a persuasive case for themselves as the ultimate Tex-Mex supergroup. Texas Tornadoes/solo artists Freddy Fender and Flaco Jimenez are joined by Texan country singers Joe Ely and Rick Trevino, Los Lobos masterminds David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas and vocalist Ruben Ramos for a tribute to their collective musical roots. Though there are some original compositions here, the focus is on Tex-Mex musical traditions, and tunes penned by Jimenez and Hidalgo sound perfectly at home next to traditional folk songs. An album full of acoustic folk songs sung in Spanish by a group of (relative) cult artists is unlikely to become a national sensation, but LOS SUPER SEVEN is assured a place as a national treasure. |

Twenty-Seven Bones $7.99 The brilliant author of Fear Itself pulls readers into an intricate web of ritual killings orchestrated by an evil pair of murderers who always manage to be one step ahead of the law. Former FBI Special Agent E.L. Pender may be retired, but he jumps at the chance to help solve a particularly gruesome series of crimes in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This is no ordinary case, seeing as the right hand on each body in the string of murders is missing. The police want to keep the existence of a serial killer under wraps; they hope to solve the crime before a stampede sets in. Meanwhile, Pender is convinced the killer must be the husband of the last victim and sets out to capture him -- but he's only partly right. The husband is connected to the case, but the real murderers are a cunning husband-and-wife team of archeologists who believe that if they breathe in their victim's last breath they will live forever. Never before has Pender come up against such savvy, diabolical opponents. From one trail of dead ends to another, readers will feel Pender's fever to prevent more murders from occurring...and his sheer panic when he can't. Twenty-Seven Bones is that most quintessential of thrilling reads, providing a visceral experience of chills and excitement on every page. |
