The Gibson Zoot Suit SG guitar is the guitar to be seen playing if you want to make a splash. If you have an outlandish style and want a guitar to match then get noticed and show off with one of these.
This Gibson guitar may well become a classic as it is a class of its own when it comes to looks. Its daring and sassy and something that is really important these days, surprisingly affordable. It comes in a range of stripey colors that hug the contours of the body; blues and reds and reds and greens and golds and so on...they are crazy and lovable!
The guitar itself is not complicated and has the standard SG features with the indispensable Humbucker pickups. 496R pickup (necK) and Humbucker 500T pickup. (bridge)
Main specifications of the SG Zoot, for the more technically minded include:
- Laminated layers of dyed birch
- Mahogany rounded neck
- A scale length of 24-3/4 in.
- The neck has the traditional rounded profile
- There are 22 Frets
- The hardware is nickel
- The tuners are Grover Rotomatic
- Tune-O-Matic bridge
Weighing in at 5.7 pounds, some might find the Zoot Suit a little heavy and with no fingerboard inlays others may be a tad lost to start with but these I feel are minor issues. They are easily overcome with a little adjustment and practice. These lack of refinements are reflected in the price of a around $1,200 depending where you buy. As always, if you are seriously looking for a Gibson guitar...shop around.
This guitar is not to everyone's taste and does not suit all occasions but certainly it is a fun guitar and represents good value for money. As you would expect from this great guitar company, it is built to their uncompromising high standards.
If you want to own a Gibson guitar with pazazz, style and all that jazz this is it. It has a great tone, is easily playable and adaptable to jazz, blues or rock.
