Epiphone Bass - A Classic Bass Guitar
Epiphone has been making instruments since as early as 1873. In the beginning, the instrument of choice was the lute and the violin. Today Epiphone is known world wide as one of the best guitar producing companies in the world. The journey to get to where it is today was filled with triumphs and all time lows but from experience the Epiphone name would remain well known.
In the early days Gibson and Epiphone were competing with each other on every level. Problems began to arise when Epiphone lost one of it's greatest assets to leukemia. The company started towards a steady decline and was soon in trouble.
A deal was made. Gibson bought Epiphone in 1957 for the sum of $20,000. Gibson only needed one thing at the time and that was a great line of Bass guitars and Epiphone had exactly what was needed. They were known for creating excellent bass guitars at a price most people could afford and at the time that was Gibson's only weakness against it's only real rival Fender!
Today one of the most popular basses available is the Epiphone EB-3. It has the classic SG body that Angus Young from AC/DC has made so popular. I know he did not play bass but his guitar of choice was an SG and they adopted that body style to this bass.
It features a mahogany neck and a rosewood fingerboard that your fingers will fall in love with. These basses have such a great tone and the sustain can not be beaten by any other basses in it's price range.

Balalaika, Prima, Deluxe, Rosewood $239.25 Our Balalaika Prima measures approximately 27 inches in length. The scale length is 430 mm. The body has the classical triangular shape. The back is slightly bowed and made with stave construction in rosewood. The darker back contrasts with the light colored wood of the soundboard. The Balalaika strings are tuned above middle C to: A, E, E (1st-3rd). The 1st string is the thinnest, and lays over more frets than the 2nd & 3rd strings. Use a piano or electronic tuner as a reference for tuning. The tension on each tuning peg can be adjusted by tightening or loosing the screw on the top of the peg. To play, the left hand notes the strings while the index finger of the right hand strums high on the soundboard near the neck. The dark rosewood on the soundboard is decorative but also protects the soundboard from the strumming. The Balalaika most likely evolved from the Oriental dombra, which is still played in present-day Kazakhstan.
