Picking The Right Door Knob Hardware For You

There are things that everybody needs.

The above statement can be interpreted literally. Every living organism needs food and water to exist. The statement can also be interpreted philosophically. Every human being needs love, friendships, the care and comfort from another human being. But the statement can also be taken lightly, and used as a means of defending another statement that may appear silly at first glance.

For example: Everybody needs door knobs.

Don't believe me? Try spending a few hours locked in your own bathroom because your hardware broke. Or reverse the situation; try spending just a few moments locked in the outside of your own bathroom because the hardware broke. To quote Zall's Second Law, "How long a minute is depends on which side of the bathroom door you're on." And faulty door knob hardware can tremendously change your interpretation of a minute.

But like food, or water, or love, door knobs can be pleasures on top of being necessities. Brass door knobs are the most traditional and commonly seen styles of door knob hardware. Because of this, the "traditional" mentality has been etched into most individual's minds, so if that's the look you're going for, brass knobs are probably for you.

And if you're looking for a more "antique" look, well then brass knobs are right up your alley. As many of you may know, brass gets dulled by oils found in your hand. And as all of you surely know, door knobs spend a lot of time in people's hands. And while the oils do commit damage upon the brass door knobs that typically dulls the natural shine, it simultaneously gives it that "antique look."

However, porcelain knobs have become a recent trend, mostly because they can offer a plethora of different colors and artistic designs. While brass door knobs are typically a compliment to the door, porcelain door knobs are typically the main feature.

That being said, a porcelain knob is also usually more expensive than a brass one. You get what you pay for, however, and when you're stuck waiting outside that bathroom door, you might be happy you spent the extra dough looking at your artistically unique hardware.

The circuit board features 2 potentiometers and a 5-way switch in a single unit, that is installed in a regular Strat-style pickguard.
