Pickguard Power

Breedlove's Passport Series includes the D20/FS, ( also known as "Kim Bob") which has a full 25.5 inch neck along with a 7/8 body size. Although it definitely makes a great travel guitar because of its portability, it really is a small dreadnought guitar, that, in addition to being portable, would be great for children or small adults. The guitar is built with a solid sitka spruce top, as well as mahogany sides and back.

That this is not a run of the mill travel guitar becomes quite obvious when you first play it. Although it certainly does not have the power of a regular-sized dreadnought, it nevertheless has great volume. Additionally, the bass comes through very clearly -- warm and deep, yet without overpowering the mids and highs. The mids and highs come through clearly, with a warm, wooden sound from the mahogany back and sides, and putting a slide to the D20/FS results in clear, whining notes.

Like all dreadnoughts, the Breedlove D20, Full Sized, travel guitar is versatile and will work well for most types of playing. I especially like this guitar model for fingerpicking, though, as it is somewhere in between a full-sized dreadnought and a concert body guitar. I also liked this dreadnought travel guitar for alternate picking, although the D20, Full Sized does not come with a pickguard to protect the top finish from scratches.
