With its amazing versatility, classy good looks, and incredible playability, the PRS DGT model is a "new vintage" guitar that will surely increase in value as the years go by.

Renowned session guitarist and sideman David Grissom has been a PRS devotee for over twenty years since he fell in love with a goldtop PRS Standard 22. Grissom has played literally thousands of gigs with this guitar, which led to his desire to commission his own PRS model.

Grissom eventually switched from the Standard a PRS McCarty equipped with a tremolo. This move got him even closer to his "dream" guitar, which has finally been realized in the PRS DGT Model.

Features
The David Grissom model is made with a mahogany body, carved maple top, and mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard. You have the choice of either bird or moon inlays. The fretboard has 22 large frets, a 10" radious, and a 1-11/16" nut width on its 25" scale length. It also features custom-made DGT Bass and Treble Humbuckers. Each pickup features separate volume controls with a master tone control. A push-pull pot splits the pickups into single-coil mode. A 3-way pickup selector switch controls the pickups. A PRS tremolo and locking tuners complete the package.

Performance
When you first strap on a PRS DGT you'll immediately notice the feel of the neck, which has a real substantive feel but also provides some serious tone for Grissom's new guitar of choice. The DGT also has taller frets than the stock McCarty. Compared to a McCarty, though, the neck is slightly smaller than the normal wide-fat neck.

The jumbo frets make for a very nice feel, and they were polished to perfection. Bends were smooth and easy. Most PRS guitars we've played ship with.009 strings, so we were a bit afraid we'd struggle with the higher gauge, but the guitar is constructed so well that it wasn't an issue.

If anything, the higher gauge strings simply add to the guitar's powerful sound and articulation. We tested the DGT through Divided by 13 combo and Marshall JCM800 Half-Stack and were pleased with both sounds, which were well-defined yet smooth.

A minor but welcome change was the addition of a volume know so that each pickup now has a master volume.

If you've ever played around with the volume settings on a Les Paul, you'll appreciate the tonal variety available with the DGT. When you add the push-pull coil taps, you've got an incredibly versatile guitar.

The Bottom Line
There are other details that contribute to the DGT being a world-class guitar. When you add the thin nitro-cellulose topcoat, low mass locking tuners, and bird inlays (an option, but one we wanted), you've got a guitar that's in a class by itself. With its amazing versatility, classy good looks, and incredible playability, the DGT is a "new vintage" guitar that will surely increase in value as the years go by.
