Paint Suppliers – What can They Do for You?
Paint suppliers are responsible for providing paint to companies involved in the manufacture of a product in a wide range of industries. As product designs focus more on the tactile sensation of using a product, different types of paint are being developed to create an interesting feel as well as providing and interesting colour. The automotive industry is a great example of this. While there are many uses for paint effects on the exterior of a vehicle, manufacturers are using protective paint to improve scratch resistance and specially formulated paint to give a rubbery finish to plastic buttons.
Consumer electronics such as phones and other hand held devices are also being coated in similar kinds of paint which give the device more friction in the user's hand. This makes it slip resistant and can be used to create interesting designs.
Aside from making paints which have a particular feel, paint suppliers have developed paints with certain properties which allow them to be used for a particular purpose.
Stoving Basecoats
This is the initial layer of paint applied to metalwork which is then heated and baked onto the metal. A prime example of this is in bicycle manufacture. When cooled this layer of paint is effectively blended into the surface of the metal, making it very difficult to scratch away.
Ultra Violet Paints
These paints will light up under ultra violet light, creating unique effects when used in interior design or on furnishings.
High Build Filler
This is a specially thickened paint which can be used to smooth over minor imperfections on the surface it is applied to.
Protective Paints
A surface covered with this kind of paint will resist water, corrosion, friction and heat far better than the uncovered surface.

Metallic
Also known as metal flake, this paint creates a polished metal effect on the surface it is applied to.
Galvano
This type of paint produces a water resistant finish that provides some of the advantages of galvanisation at a fraction of the cost.
Pearlescent
This is a striking effect used mainly for aftermarket vehicle bodies. Depending on the angle you are looking at the surface from, you will see two colours. The main colour is visible in a direct line but fades to the second colour towards the edge.
Special Haptic Paint
This type of paint can provide you with a soft, velvet like finish to the surface is it used on. This is particularly useful in product design to make it more interesting to hold.
Textured Paint
This type of paint dries with a grain or undulation. This is also used to make the surface more interesting to touch as well as look at.
Flexible Paint
If you need to cover a soft surface such as foam where it will deform and you want the paint layer to yield and spring back, this kind of paint can provide the perfect solution.
These kinds of paint are making lots of consumer products more interesting to use but it is worth keeping in mind that your paint supplier can change the formula of the paint so that it can be used to protect the surface against wear, water, rust and even fire as well.
