Step One: Set a dollar goal

Step Two: Break the goal down by how many kids will be involved

Step Three:  Select the band fundraiser that seems most popular and doable

Step Four:  Stay organized

Step Five:  Consider working with an online retailer who has all the tools

Step Six:  Build up momentum by advertising your fundraising campaign

Step Seven:  Don't just sell product, remind people how band builds character

Step Eight:  Provide band members incentives daily for hitting mini-goals

Step Nine: Be clear about dates and deadlines

Step Ten:  Collect funds and celebrate

Bonus Step:  Announce your results, with a band fanfare, at your next home game. 

Announcing results and saying thank you is an often forgotten step, that when done, can turn an ordinary fundraiser into a multi-year band tradition. 

People will feel a lot better purchasing products from future band members when they know they are part of something big and important.

Now here's the part that makes any band fundraiser you choose better.  Teach your students how to ask.  That's right.  Just like the professional fundraisers.

The key point is to be able to communicate why involvement is important to our children's education, not just why they need the money.

When asked why is music so important, a freshman high school band member replied, "Music is a part of my life, from the radio in the morning to chorus and band class at school.  Without music, I wouldn't be who I am today!"
