The price of an electric guitar is determined by the type of wood that has gone into building it and also the pickups that amplify the string sound. For starting off, it doesn't really matter if you get a guitar with a comparatively cheaper pickup.

#1. Ibanez GRX series electric guitars
Price: Between $170 and $180
Colors Available: Black Night and Light Blue
Specifications: Built with Basswood, with 2 Good Quality double-coiled pick-ups, dotted inlays, tremolo arm(or whammy bar) and a Fat6 neck and 22 medium frets,
This is one of the guitars that I play and in my experience it suits all musical styles. From blues and Jazz to Death metal. The GRX20 that I am using handles every musical styles as good as it's costlier cousins namely RG or RX series. It can produce beautiful and rich acoustic sound as well as the most heavy metal sounds without any distortion or disturbance. If you want those deep bass tone or the crunchy grunge tone, GRX20 can give you both with ease. It can be used for live shows as well as to just JAM at home.
Finish and Durability: This guitar is built sturdy and can withstand a smash on the ground easily. The finish is as good as Ibanez's costlier models.
All in all a very good and less expensive guitar for beginners. You can also check out the GRG series if you could spend 100 dollars more. You will get 3 good quality pickups, fat10 neck and 24 frets and it comes in 3 colors.
#2. Fender Squier Strat Mini
Price: $100 to $125
Colors Available: As per my knowledge there are 2 dual-tone colors
Specifications: Rosewood body, 20 medium frets, 3 single coil pickups, without a tremolo arm(or whammy bar)
Fender Squier is a great sounding guitar good for teenagers with a medium built. You can play anything from Acoustic to Grunge or Hard rock pretty neat. The best thing about this guitar is it's 5-way switching of the pickups which can produce some variety of tones good for country music or acoustic to hard rock.
Finish and Durability: The guitar is built with perfection and everything is set up great. What I felt was the problem were the tuning pegs, which are slightly hard, that they need to consider. The build is sturdy and solid with good strap holder.
I would recommend this guitar to teenagers with a medium build, as it is slightly smaller than the usual electric guitars. While checking out this guitar you can also check out the other scaled down version from Fender - called Affinity Telecaster and also the entry level guitars from Yamaha.
Playing any musical style is a real enjoyment & fund and it sounds professional with these above mentioned models.
