DiMarzio DP104 Super 2 Humbucker Pickup Blue Regular Spaced $74.95 If you love the sound of a Super Distortion in the bridge and you like hot neck pickups too, try the DiMarzio DP104 Super 2 Humbucker Pickup. The Super 2 takes the classic Super Distortion sound and slides the EQ up in favor of the high-end, so its brighter top and lighter bottom work to balance out the darker, overtone heavy information up by the fingerboard. The Super 2 is just the pickup to clean up the overdrive sound of a mud-heavy 24¾" scale, two-humbucker guitar or to add snap to a dark sounding 25½" bolt-on. It works great in the bridge or the neck.Recommended For: Neck position with equal or higher-power bridge pickup. Bridge position with equal or lower-power pickup. Tech Talk: This is a very bright bridge pickup, but the highest frequencies are rounded off enough to allow the pickup to cut without being too buzzy or metallic. |

Gibson Les Paul Special Humbucker Electric Guitar Pelham Blue $999 The Les Paul Special Humbucker is an excellent rock guitar at a very attractive price. Basic, straightforward and ready to rock hard. Two classic high-output humbuckers are loaded into a solid mahogany body for pure Gibson power. Mahogany set neck with obeche fingerboard and nitro lacquer finish, naturally, for pure Gibson Tone! The two-pickup Les Paul Special was introduced in 1955 as an intermediate model, positioned between the low-cost Les Paul Junior and the Les Paul. It was originally available only in a single-cutaway, TV-style limed mahogany finish. A double-cutaway Special and cherry red finish option were introduced in 1959. The Les Paul Special made the virtues of the Les Paul available to those who couldn't quite afford the Standard or Custom versions. And it still has all the essential features. The Les Paul Special Humbucker is made from solid mahogany. An archetypal tonewood used in countless classic Gibson electric guitars, mahogany has a sonic depth and richness that pulses through every note, yet always remains clear and articulate. As a further modification to the slab-bodied template, the "belly scarf" on the back lets you hold your axe comfortably close. The pickguard has been dispensed for that full-on hot-rodded look. The guitars neck is made from quarter-sawn Grade C mahogany, carved to the fast, yet comfortable SlimTaper profile, with a fingerboard of dark obeche, a rich-brown hardwood with excellent tone and durability. For hardware, Gibson USA packs in a classic set of Tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece, with vintage-style, white-button tuners. The Les Paul Special Humbucker carries two of Gibson USAs most popular humbucking pickups, an open-coil 490R in the neck position, and a hotter, open-coil 498T in the bridge position. The 490R is made with a genuine Alnico II magnet for creamy, rich, warm tones, while the 498T has a stronger Alnico V magnet and extra turns of coil wire for added growl and punch in the lead position. Both provide superb clarity and sustain, and they make a well-matched set, with a balanced output and excellent round, funky tones when combined in the middle position. |
