Setting up and adjusting the different vital parts of the guitar such as the truss rod is very important. Needless to say, this would make your guitar sound better. Guitar is a musical instrument that, if, is out of adjustment would not work properly and smoothly. Truss rods are one of the many physical components of a guitar that helps in improving the guitar's playability and longevity. A beginner might not have an idea of the important role that it plays in the smooth functioning of the guitar. But as part of your guitar set up, fixing the it is extremely important and can be done by following a trussrod setting guide as well.

Setting up the truss rod is not a tough job if done with caution. It basically adjusts the amount of bow in the neck of the guitar. Adjusting the bow or the relief of the neck of the guitar would be in accordance with your playing style. You can make the strings both high and low by loosening and tightening the truss rod respectively. But too much tightening of the rod might break it; in that case lowering of the height of the saddle would do the job.

For a proper guitar set up, the truss rod should be fixed with both caution and passion to avoid ruining the instrument. To avoid any inconvenience, make small adjustments instead of big ones. After making each adjustment check out whether the turning has been done correctly or not. But then you need to be patient, for often the desired results take a long time to show up. Also remember, that these rods are very delicate in nature; therefore, excessive force while adjusting can break the rod. Repairing it would be a very costly affair, so maintain caution from the beginning.

The adjustment of the truss rod is basically done by controlling an adjustment bolt but the location of the bolt differs from one model of the guitar to the other. For example, in an acoustic guitar the truss rod is located inside the guitar body and is accessible through the sound hole. However, in the newer versions of the Fender-style electric guitars they are located behind the neck and are uncovered. Hence, if you wish to adjust it yourself, do not forget to acquire proper knowledge of your guitar model and location of its physical components.
