The Cat In The Hat written by Dr.Seuss is a children's book. It features a mischievous cat who wears a white stripped hat. The story revolves around its exploits on a certain day when it visits two children at their home when their mother is out. The success of the first book prompted Dr.Seuss to write five more books in the same series.Dr.Seuss, whose actual name is Theodore Geisel, wrote this book as a response to an article by John Hersey called "Why Do Students Bog Down on First R? A Local Committee Sheds Light on a National Problem: Reading" published in May 24, 1954. It dealt with the common issue of reading among children. Hersey argued that the books for children mostly dealt with idealistic situations rather than natural situations, where children are too well behaved. So as a response to this Dr.Seuss decided to write the book The Cat In The Hat.While writing The Cat In The Hat, Dr.Seuss restricted himself to a vocabulary of 223 elementary English words. As such it took him nine months to complete the book. He crafted the entire story around two rhyming words –cat and hat. Dr. Seuss' books were created to supplement the "look say" reading programs taught in schools.In the first book of the series, the cat brings in chaos into a house of two children when their mother is out.he brings with him two creatures called One Thing andTwo thing. The goldfish vehemently opposes to the activities of the children and the cat. Sally and her elder brother ultimately manage to control the cat, set the house in order just before their mother returns. The Cat In The Hat is written in strict anapestic tetrameter, a style common to Dr.Seuss.The Cat in the Hat was translated into Latin with the title "Cattus Petasatus" and into Yiddish with the title "di Kats der Payats". Around 7.2 million copies of the book has been sold in U.S alone till 2000.The popularity of the book encouraged Dr.Seuss to write sequels to it called The Cat in the Hat Comes Back, The Cat in the Hat Song Book, The Cat's Quizzer, I Can Read with My Eyes Shut! and Daisy - Head Mayzie.The Cat In the Hat was adapted for stage and screen Numerous times.In 21 November 2003,Bo Welch directed a film on the story starring Mike Myers as the famous cat.It also featured Dakota Fanning as Sally and Alec Baldwin as Quinn. Similarly, Seussical the Musical is a musical that combines different Dr. Seuss stories together. The Cat In The Hat plays the narrator, as well as a few minor characters.The Cat Not In The Hat is a parody written by fictional "Dr.Juice" which was published by Penguin Books in 1995.
