Firebird hood merits some attention and respect

Firebird was introduced long back in 1967 as a two-door hardtop and also as a convertible. The convertible version was dropped in 1970 at the start of the second generation. During this period an optional package of Trans Am Performance was offered. It had some special features including a high performance engine. Firebird had been manufactured by the Pontiac division of General Motors. At the time of the 50th anniversary of Pontiac in 1976 a special version of Firebird Trans Am in black and gold color was marketed. It had the rare distinction of gaining popularity by its appearance in the Hollywood movie "Smokey and the Bandit". In its third generation which lasted from 1982 to 1992 some adjustments were made because of the fuel crisis that occurred at that time. Its weight was reduced and fuel efficiency was improved. The computerized engines had not become prevalent by that time. In the last and the fourth generation which lasted from1993 to 2002 a special package was introduced which inter- alia included a functional hood scoop which increased power.

A mention of hood-scoop has been made here which prompts us to give a thought to the Firebird hood itself. Since the making of a hood does not require complicated engineering that does not lessen its importance. The hood mainly protects the engine and the adjacent machinery from the outside elements but at the same time it is a very visible part which catches attention. Carbon fiber hoods are available now which are lighter. Their use reduces the overall weight of the vehicle. Lighter weight means less of power is required to haul the vehicle which reduces the fuel consumption. Moreover the weight is reduced over the front wheels of the vehicle which gives a better balance to the car. These hoods are also long lasting.

The hoods are eye catching so they are marketed in many innovative designs and in different colors which can give a new look and feel to your existing car.
