If there is one guitar that screams ROCK, it certainly has to be the Gibson Explorer. However, have you looked at the more affordable Epiphone series of Epiphone Explorers? There are a number of different models to choose from for all types of players. Any of these would make a great addition your growing guitar collection.

Don't let the different design fool you. This is more than just a different looking guitar that is only meant for heavier rock, it can do a lot of different styles of music as well. Let's look at the models.

Epiphone Goth Explorer

First off, the cool thing about this model is that you can choose to either get one with a Floyd Rose Trem system or without. Depends on your style. These guitars also feature 22 frets, tune-o-matic bridge, Grover tuners, 58 neck and mahogany body with the gothic black finish.

Overall, if you are into the metal scene and want to have a great guitar on stage with you, this can be an excellent choice. It's got the crunchy tone that you will be looking for especially when you combine it with a high gain amp made for metal as well.

Epiphone Korina '58 Explorer Reissue Explorer

From Epiphone's designer collection comes the 1958 Korina Explorer model. This has to be one of my favorites of all the Explorers because of the natural finish on the body along with the white pickguard. You can get it in ebony black as well but I prefer the Korina finish. This model is kind of a throwback to the original Explorer that was introduced by Gibson back in 1958.

These guitars may sometimes be a little harder to find (and find a case that will fit it too!) but if you find one - especially the discontinued models - and have the means to buy it, I would suggest that you do. You will be rewarded with great clean tones and blistering heavy tones as well.
