The Apple iPod nano is the best selling iPod on the market according to Amazon.com. If your going to buy an iPod, it is most likely going to be a nano. Only one question remains, do you want a new or used nano? There are distinct advantages to buying both new and used nano.
Is price a factor?
New nanos can retail for up to $199 depending on the model. Whereas a used nano of the same generation can sell for up to 50% less. Previous generations of nano (1G, 2G) which are no longer available at retail can go for up to 75% or more of the price of a new nano. The advantage in price clearly belongs to the used nano. Especially if you do not require the features of the so called "latest and greatest" generation product.
Are you concerned about product quality?
Many people just feel more comfortable paying retail. You get what you pay for they say. However, I have purchased many used products over the internet, in particular over sites like Ebay and Craigslist and found the product quality to be high. The secret is buying from sellers with a good reputation. Ebay has a good metric to rate seller reputation called Feedback. The higher the sellers feedback, and the greater percentage of their feedback that is positive, the more confidence you can have in buying a used nano or other product from the seller.
Do you care about the manufacturers warranty?
New nanos are guaranteed by Apple for at least one year via the manufacturers warranty. Used nano often have no factory warranty. However, purchasing a later generation used nano might be a good compromise. The 3rd Generation iPod nano was released in September of 2007. Meaning used 3rd gen. devices will often have a portion of their factory warranty remaining!
The iPod nano was first introduced to the market in September of 2005. Since then, Apple has released a new generation of nano approximately once per year. There are now 3 generations of iPod nano on the market in less than 3 years. The used nano market is very strong and even a first gen. nano will likely perform well for many years to come. Many Apple customer's like to remain on the cutting edge of technology and will sell a slightly used nano for far below the retail price. Apple does not permit retailers to sell a new nano for below MSRP, a used nano is always the best bet for price.

Korg CA-40 Electronic Chromatic Tuner $19.99 The Korg CA-40 Electronic Chromatic Tuner has wide range that covers A0 (27.50 Hz) - C8 (4186.01 Hz), you can tune a variety of instruments with the Korg CA-40, including wind, string, and keyboard instruments. The pitch and range are detected quickly and accurately. You can use the built-in high-sensitivity microphone to detect the pitch of an acoustic instrument without the need for any other equipment. Alternatively, you can use the separately sold CM-100 contact microphone to send the vibration of the instrument directly to the tuner, so that you can tune accurately without worrying about other sounds in the environment. An output jack (bypass) has been added to this digital tuner, making it easy to check the tuning even while you perform.Conveniently thin and compact The pocket-sized CA-40 features a refined design with a stand on the back that lets you place this digital tuner on any surface.Large, high-precision LCD meterThe CA-40's display has been enlarged for even clearer visibility. In addition to providing both the accuracy of an LCD and the easy viewing of a needle-style meter, red and green LEDs are also provided to indicate pitch deviations, making tuning smooth and easy.Sound Out functionIn addition to letting you tune visually using the meter, this digital tuner provides a Sound Out function that plays a reference tone through the internal speaker, allowing you to tune by ear. You can adjust the reference tone in semitone steps over a range of C4 through C5 (one octave) to accommodate a variety of instruments. Since the reference tone you specify is remembered, it's easy to sound it again whenever you need to.Adjustable CalibrationThe Calibration function of this hand held tuner lets you adjust the pitch in 1 Hz steps over a range of 410 - 480 Hz in order to accommodate a variety of concert pitches, giving you the flexibility to tune accurately to any song or key. There's also a memory backup function that preserves the Calibration setting and Sound Out settings even when you turn off the power.Auto Power Off functionThe power of this digital tuner will turn off automatically if the unit is left powered-on for 20 minutes without performing any operation, avoiding unnecessary battery consumption.Approximately 85 hours of continuous useThe CA-40 is designed for long battery life, and allows approximately 85 hours of continuous use (continuous A4 input, Meter mode, zinc-carbon batteries).* Even if a sound is within the detectable pitch range, detection may be unsuccessful for instrumental sounds that contain a large number of overtones or decay rapidly.** The calibration setting and the Sound Out reference pitch are remembered even when you turn off the power. However, when you replace the batteries, these settings will be initialized to the default values; the calibration will return to 440 Hz, and the Sound Out reference pitch will return to A.Korg digital tuners and metronomes purchased from a Korg USA authorized dealer now have |
