Just about every person who is involved with horses knows the value of a well-organized tack room. While the main function of the space is often thought to be a storage and working space for taking care of your horse and equipment, the fact is that the space can be a lot more than that. Here are some tips on how to multi-task your tack room and get more bang from the space.
One point to ponder is thinking in terms of the aesthetics of the space, as well as the functionality. To that end, there is no reason that a tack room cannot also have a bit of decorating flair. One great way to add some personal touches to the room is to make space for displaying any trophies, certificates, or other awards associated with your horse.
This can be a simple as creating a trophy wall, using a series of shelves, or investing in a glass enclosed cabinet. Don't forget to work in some photographs of your favorite equine friends among the trophies and awards. This will make this focal point for the room even more inviting to the eye and truly multi-task your tack room.
Along with finding a way to display awards and other important items that chronicle your history with your horse, the tack room could also include some space for getting some office work done. The amount of space devoted to a mini-office does not have to be large. A desk that is big enough to hold some files, provide a flat surface for a computer, and a couple of comfortable chairs will complete the function with ease. Make sure to choose furnishings that will work well with the wall construction for the space, and will also co-exist with the utilitarian aspects of the space, such as the saddle storage area. In fact, establishing the office area in close proximity to the trophy cabinet or display will make it easier to enjoy paperwork and being comfortable while admiring the contents of the cabinet. Mount a dry erase board on the wall for leaving messages and feeding instructions.
The addition of a display and office section will still leave plenty of room for such important elements as storage for supplies, saddle racks, horse head shaped bridle brackets and other items of use and interest. When it is all said and done, the decision to multi-task your tack room will end up providing a lot of benefits.

Graph Tech PRS String Saver Saddles (Set of 6) $32.99 The String Saver Saddles PRS (PQ-8220-00) are superior replacement saddles for Paul Reed Smith guitars. The guitar saddles are made with a unique combination of materials that enhance tone and dramatically reduce string breakage. How do they work? A string rests on a metal saddle that binds and locks the string in place. As the string vibrates, it is stressed on a very specific point producing metal fatigue and then string breakage. Each String Saver guitar saddle is impregnated with Teflon, the slipperiest substance on earth. The Teflon in String Savers eases the grip between the saddle and string, spreading the stress over a greater portion of the string, just enough to drastically reduce string breakage. Teflon is 500% more slippery than graphite and is impregnated throughout the String Saver material, so its lubricating properties will never wear out. Use the Graph Tech PRS guitar saddle and experience strings that last and last, no matter how hard you play&hellipGraph Tech guarantees it!What do they sound like? Metal saddles have a pronounced 2 KHz treble spike that dominates the tonal spectrum. String Saver guitar saddles have a more balanced tone, with highs, mids and big open lows. You will also notice an increase in sustain by up to 25% over brass saddles and 15% over steel.Reduces string breakageIncreases sustainImproves midrange depthSuper lubricatingImproves tuningCorrosion resistantInspires confidenceIncludes an Allen key |
