Many people want to incorporate a logo into their custom label design. Including a logo on your custom labels will give your business or product a professional edge. Additionally, if you offer a variety of products, a unique logo will help consumers quickly recognize your brand. If you are establishing yourself in the marketplace, a logo is the first step to your custom product labels. So, what do you do next?
Here is the key to logo design - you want to design a logo once and not have to re-design it in a year. It should have some longevity, which means there should be a considerable amount of thought and research involved. Also, in most cases, it is a graphical element, so it should be designed by a graphic designer. Some may say only hire a professional firm or experienced designer, but that is not always necessary. An amateur artist could have a great design idea that will work perfectly for your company. Regardless of who you work with, the design must make sense for your brand.
Here are 10 tips to achieve a good logo design for your company and product labels:
1. Choose a designer who understands your business, product and vision. If the designer does not understand your company, there is no way they can create a logo that will work for you.
2. Ask for options. Make sure you request at least three different logo options from your designer. If you are only given one design, you won't be able to fairly judge it.
3. Do not use stock graphics for your logo. Stock graphics are easy to find and can sometimes look great, but beware, at best, there could be copyright issues, but at worst, there could be a variety of businesses with the same logo.
4. Trends come and go - let them. Opt for more classic or timeless design styles and leave the swooshes, mirror-images, and bevel alone. These will quickly become outdated and antiquated, resulting in a re-design in the near future.
5. Use vector software. Whether you are creating the logo design or working with a designer, make sure all graphics are in vector format. Vector graphics are easy to re-size without losing clarity.
6. Do not make the design too complex. Overly complex designs can be hard to understand when scaled down for a small label, business card or other collateral, resulting in lost meaning.
7. Make sure the design works in black and white. This may seem minor, but there are many times when a black and white logo label is needed, so the logo should work in color and in black and white.
8. Choose a font that matches the brand's style. A fancy script would not work with a monster truck tires, so choose fonts that work with the overall brand style. Be careful not to opt for famous or easily recognizable fonts. These can instantly make any logo look unprofessional.
9. Use two fonts max. Limiting your logo to only two fonts will make it easier to read and improve brand recognition.
10. Do not be a copy cat. It is acceptable to get inspiration for another brand or logo, but don't copy it. This will backfire every time.
Designing a logo is an important part of every business. From a branding and marketing standpoint, there is not anything more important than the logo design. When designing custom labels, incorporating a logo into the design can help build brand recognition, which will build a customer base and ultimately grow your business. Did you ever think a logo would be so important?
