We have been taught to knock before we enter a door; it is also the same custom when visiting one's home or office for any purpose. Before door knockers were invented, people would only use their knuckles to knock on doors which is not all that efficient as the sound is rather at a minimal thus the reason for people to call out loud for them to be heard by those inside.
With the turn of each year, innovations are constantly made to further develop technology. Of which includes the invention and development of Doorbells. This serves a great function to announce one's presence to be able to gain entry to a home or office.
There is a variety in the shapes, sizes, materials and functions for these contraptions. The selection of sounds it emits to be able to identify the presence of visitors also vary.
The Doorbells are made to function by using any of the two common systems; one of which is the wired system. As it is aptly termed, the button and the receiver are connected by means of a series of wires. One of these wires are connected to one of the button's terminals which is then routed over to a transformer; it is then routed further to a step down voltage to a transmitter which sends out indicators to a signaling device on the receiver. This system usually have two solenoids and flat bars; as the button is pressed, a new series of reactions happen thus creating the sound emitted for those inside a home or building to hear.
Wireless Doorbell systems is the other mechanism used; as it is named, no wires are required to be able to install it and keep it functioning as it is needed. The two basic pieces which are the receiver and the button are installed in its designated places accordingly. At the press of the button, it automatically transmits a radio signal which is received at an effective range by the receiver which in event creates a sound to indicate its function.
Though these contraptions are not given as much importance or thought for its nature, much innovation has happened to further develop its purpose and function to give a little spice in announcing guests at the door.
The way each of these items have been developed is a selling factor apart from its purpose. Each piece is designed to serve the same purpose with the exception of how the plate of the button would look by the door. The development for this item has gone beyond the regular rectangular plate though is still vastly available. There are now some which look like famous characters, places and other novelty shapes.
Although Ding Dong is what we usually have in mind when speaking of how a door bell sounds like; the developments have been able to create these items to sound differently from the standard ring or buzz. There are now some which sound more like familiar notes and tunes as well as scripted voice prompts which gives these items a better chance for selection when someone presses your wireless doorbell button.
