Recently I purchased a pair of Schaller strap locks for my bass guitar. The reason I bought the strap locks were twofold. First of all, my bass was getting old, and, as a result, the screws that hold the straps were coming loose. They actually came out when I was playing; plus, the straps themselves would occasionally slide off. Secondly, I wanted to feel more secure when moving on stage. I want to feel as if I don't have to be as careful of damaging my guitar. While I haven't played a live show with the strap locks yet, I will soon. Even playing on my own or in practice I appreciate the additional security that the strap locks provide.
The Schaller locks themselves are fairly easy to install. All one must do is remove their old strews and replace them with the new ones. After that you attach the metal piece onto the strap with the nut and washer. Then easily click (or, in the case of the Schaller brand, slide) into place and secure your instrument.
One other thing that's nice about these guitar strap locks is that they're interchangeable. While it's not advisable to replace the screws on different guitars, if you have purchased more than one set of strap locks, you can easily use the same strap with different guitars because the locking devises are the same.
