There have been a lot of musicians getting quite excited about the Budda Superdrive. It's a 1 x 12 tube combo amp which delivers masses of high quality distortion in a very compact package. It's certainly not the cheapest amp in the world but the tone is well worth it so let's take a closer look at exactly what this amp has to offer you.
The Budda Superdrive is rated at 18 watts of Class A/B power and offers the experienced guitarist some great sustain even when played at bedroom levels. In the tube section it has 2 x EL84s coupled with a 5U4 rectifier tube which is where the bulk of the distortion is streaming from. You may be surprised at just how versatile this amp is in terms of its tonal flexibility, the manufacturers claim that it's capable of getting dark tones reminiscent of a vintage Plexi right across to a compressed AC30.
Well they would say that wouldn't they? But the reviews and comments from real working musicians seem to back up the boast.
Cabling is super important when we're talking about guitar amps due to the distortions and signal paths which run through them. The Superdrive houses speaker wiring from Monster Cable who are very well respected. They use something called Time Correct Windings with really good quality cable construction and all this amounts to a better bass and wider range over the dynamics the amp produces.
In total the amp has the 2 x Groove Tube EL84 Power Tubes I mentioned before plus a Groove Tube 5U4 Rectifier Tube and 3 Groove Tube 12AX7 Preamp Tubes. Now that's what I call a proper tube amp!
The amp is also equipped with a pull bright switch on the rhythm volume and has 2 channels to switch between made up of rhythm and Hi gain. The transformer is custom wound with a 4-8-16 OHM switch which is really useful for all the various applications you may want to use this amp in.
It's dimensions are 23" x 10.5" x 21.5"D and the weight is 45 lbs. Highly recommended!
