A computer worm is one of the worst PC infections that a system can experience, with others being spyware and viruses. Like viruses, computer worms can duplicate themselves and spread within different PCs in the same network quickly. They are also one of the hardest malicious programs to stop because they can operate on their own without human assistance.

When worms are left unattended in a system, it can copy itself many times over and eventually seek to destroy and corrupt all the files and programs inside. It spreads itself easily to other computers that are in the same network as the infected computer.

2. How To Find Computer Worms and Get Rid of Them?

Generally, you should be able to protect your computer from being infected when you have a firewall setup to protect from worms, although it is still not a 100% guarantee. Firewalls allow your PC to be hidden and not seen by other computer worms in the same network, thus these malicious files cannot invade into your PC.

If however you suspect or already know that computers worms are hiding in your system, you should download anti-worm / anti-spyware programs to find and delete these files.
